ABSTRACT
Conversion of single-phase power supply into three-phase power supply has always been a commercial approach. There is an ever-increasing demand of high-speed electrical machines for a wider range of applications. This paper presents a single-phase to three-phase converter which can generate high frequency output voltage in a single stage to drive high-speed induction motor. A modified space vector pulse width modulation (PWM) technique has been implemented to reduce the total harmonic distortion factor in the output of the converter. In order to generate approximately sinusoidal three-phase output, genetic algorithm has been used as a mathematical tool to estimate the switching angles of different devices in the converter. Detailed design and simulation analysis is presented for single-phase to three-phase converter-fed induction motor drive. A laboratory prototype of the proposed converter is developed through Xilinx field programmable gate array. Test results are presented to validate the proposed design and simulated results of the system.

Preeti Agrawal graduated from the Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, India, with BTech degree in electronics and communication engineering in 2007 and completed her MTech (gold medalist) and PhD degrees in power electronics from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad in 2011 and 2015, respectively. Anshul Agarwal graduated from the Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, India, with BTech degree in electrical and electronics engineering in 2007. He completed his MTech (gold medalist) in power electronics and ASIC design at MNNIT, Allahabad in July 2009, and PhD degree in power electronics in 2013. Presently, he is working as Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering Department, NIT Delhi, India. Vineeta Agarwal
Vineeta Agarwal received the BE and ME degrees in electrical engineering from Allahabad University, India, in 1980 and 1984, respectively, and the PhD degree in power electronics from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad in 1994. She joined the Electrical Engineering Department, Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad, India as a lecturer in 1982 and now she is full professor since 2001. Her research focuses on the areas of single-phase to three-phase conversion and AC drives. She has a number of publications in journals and conferences in her field. She has attended both national and international conferences and presented papers and chaired technical session.
