Design of Flow Transmitter using a Capacitive Type Sensor

Pages 340-349 | Published online: 25 Apr 2019

Abstract

Rotameter is a local indicating and variable area type flow sensor that requires a special type of transducer for the transmission of its readings to remote site. In this paper, capacitive type rotameter is designed and analysed. The bob of rotameter is connected with a thin wire while another end of that straight wire is connected with a thin rectangular shape aluminium oxide plate, which lies between parallel plate capacitors. The modified De Sauty’s Bridge has been used for measuring the variation in capacitance with respect to flow rate. The bridge output passes through voltage to current converter to achieve 4–20 mA signals.
