Coherent Linear Detection of Slow Fluctuating Radar Targets in a K-Distributed Clutter

Abstract

A method was proposed in this paper for detecting radar targets in sea clutter by solving the composite hypothesis testing for the quasi-optimum detector. The quasi-optimal detector and the sea clutter distribution were assumed to be coherent and based on the K-model. A linear model was proposed based on these assumptions and the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) to compare the detector, outputs after mathematical calculations and approximations. The purpose of this paper was to provide a practical method for the implementation of a detector to reduce the burden of mathematical calculations. Computerized simulations demonstrated the favorable performance of the proposed model.
