Triple Band Notch Microstrip Patch Antenna with Fractal Defected Ground Structure

ABSTRACT

Microstrip patch antenna compatible in size with fractal defected ground structure (FDGS) has been designed and fabricated to enable successful implementation in modern communication systems. This attempt is dedicated to the wireless application of emergency management. In this paper, the presented structures are based on the coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed patch radiating element in conjunction with fractal geometry as a tuning stub. CPW feed is utilized to obtain the ultra-wideband (UWB) capacity of the presented antenna. Fractal structure as patch stub is employed to decrease the size of the antenna. The employed structure is tuned with the proficient Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique for required frequency of emergency management. In light of investigating the band notching properties, slot of meander curve geometry and FDGSs is critically analyzed and discussed. Experimental tests on the manufactured prototype are conducted to examine the effectiveness of the antenna.

Sushil Kakkar received his BTech and MTech degrees from Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar. He has in his credit five best paper awards in five different international and national conferences. He published over 50 research papers in various national and international journals/conferences. Besides convener of 05 international conferences, he has been the active organizing member of various FDPs, workshops and conferences. His biography has been published in 32nd Edition of Who’s Who in the World, 2015 by MARQUIS, New York. His research interests include microstrip antennas and biologically inspired computational techniques.

Shweta Rani

Shweta Rani was born in Sangrur, Punjab, India. She received her BTech degree from Punjab Technical University in 2003 and ME degree from Thapar University, Patiala, in 2006. Shweta received her PhD degree in 2014 in the field of fractal antennas from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SLIET Longowal, Sangrur, Punjab. At present, she is an assistant professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at GZSCCET, Bathinda, Punjab. She has 10 years of teaching experience. She received “Young Engineers Award” in October 2015 from Institution of Engineers (India). She has published over 50 research papers in various international and national journals/conferences. She has received various awards and recognitions including KF Antia Award by the Institution of Engineers (India) in 2014 and best paper awards in four different international and national conferences. Besides convener of 2 international conferences ICAET-2016 and ICAET 2015, she has been the active organizing member of various FDPs, workshops and conferences. Email: [email protected]

A. P. Singh

A P Singh was born in Sangrur, Punjab, in 1967 and received his BTech degree in ECE from GNDU, Amritsar, in 1990. He received his MTech degree from REC, Kurukshetra, in 1994 and PhD degree in 2005 and presently he is professor in ECE as well as part-time chief vigilance officer (appointed by Govt. of India) at SLIET, Longowal. Singh is credited with a professional experience of over 24 years. He has guided seven PhD theses and six more students are pursuing their PhD degrees under his supervision. He has published more than 170 research papers in various national & international journals/conferences and received various awards including IETE Students Journal Award-2006 by IETE, New Delhi, Certificate of Merit in 2006, KF Antia Award in 2009, Sir Thomas Ward for the year 2010 and again KF Antia Award in 2014 by the Institution of Engineers (India).
