Abstract

A power system stabilizer (PSS) design technique via model order reduction (MOR) for a modified single machine infinite bus (MSMIB) system using an improved whale optimization algorithm (IWOA) is presented. A reduced-order model (ROM) is derived for the higher-order system (HOS) of MSMIB using IWOA by considering integral square error (ISE) as an objective function. Then the PSS is designed for the obtained ROM of the MSMIB system by minimizing an eigenvalue (EV)-based objective function using IWOA. The powerfulness and robustness of the proposed design technique are tested with a variety of loading conditions under various disturbance conditions. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed work, eigenvalue analysis (EVA) is carried for all the loading conditions. Simulation results are compared with renowned algorithms like particle swarm optimization (PSO), differential evolution (DE), and whale optimization algorithm(WOA).
