WETLANDS AS ACCRETING SYSTEMS: INORGANIC SEDIMENTS

Pages 90-95 | Published online: 01 Oct 2010

SUMMARY

Concepts dealing with factors affecting the origin, transport and deposition of inorganic sediments as well as their role in the functioning of wetland systems are discussed. The lack of quantitative data, particularly for South African systems, is emphasised. Research priorities, which will lead to a better understanding of inorganic sediment: wetland interactions and allow for rational exploitation of wetlands, are proposed.
