On the genera of African Cetoniinae: Anisorrhina Westwood 1842, Melinesthes Kraatz 1880 and Inhambane Péringuey 1907

Abstract

The genus Inhambane Péringuey 1907 is synonymized with Anisorrhina Westwood 1842, and Melinesthes Kraatz 1880 is ranked as a subgenus of Anisorrhina. The position of Anisorrhina s. 1. within the Coryphocerina is discussed. The species of both subgenera are keyed and listed, and the following new synonyms on species level are proposed: A. (M.) murphyi (Allard 1989) = A. (M.) conradsi (Schauer 1935); A. (M.) exilis (Janson 1885) and A. (M.) simillima (Kraatz 1880) = A. (M.) umbonata (Gory & Percheron 1833); A. (M.) lequeuxi (Allard 1989) and A. (M.) jocquei (Allard 1989) = A. (M.) elongata manowensis (Schürhoff 1933) (stat. nov.); A. (A.) palliata (Gerstaecker 1884), A. (A.) jacksoni (Waterhouse 1888), A. (A.) laevicauda Bates 1881, A. (A.) lequeuxi (Allard 1986) and A. (A.) quadricomis (Janson 1884) all = A. (A.) flavomaculata laeviplaga (Raffray 1877) (stat. nov.). A. (A.) flavoplagiata (Moser 1919) is ranked as subspecies under A. (A.) flavomaculata (Fabricius 1798).
