Spectral Reflectance Characteristics of Dutch Elm Disease

RÉSUMÉ

La réflectance spectrale du feuillage de l'orme a été mesurée avec un spectroradiomètre dans des conditions de laboratoire pour examiner les caractéristiques de réflectance associées avec les différents stades de la maladie hollandaise de l'orme. Des conditions précoces de la maladie résultent en un accroissement rapide de la réflectance dans le vert et le rouge et une réduction de la réflectance dans le proche infrarouge. Les symptômes tardifs incluent une diminution de la réflectance dans le vert et le proche infrarouge et un accroissement de la réflectance dans l'infrarouge à ondes courtes. On propose des recommandations pour la mise sur pied de programmes de détection précoce et de suivi en milieu naturel et urbain.

SUMMARY

Spectral reflectance of elm tree foliage was measured with a spectroradiometer under laboratory conditions to examine reflectance characteristics associated with various stages of Dutch elm disease. Early disease conditions resulted in a rapid increase in green and red reflectance and a decrease in near-infrared reflectance. Late symptoms included a decrease in green and near-infrared reflectance and an increase in short wave infrared reflectance. Recommendations for early detection and monitoring programs for native and urban situations are discussed.
