Spectral Properties of Cu2 +, Ni2 +, Co2 +, Mn2 + & Cr3 + Ions Doped B2O3-BaO-LiF Glasses

Abstract

Brightly colored and more transparent optical glasses in the general chemical composition of B2O3-BaO-LiF (abbreviated as BBLi) with certain transition metal ions (each in 1 mol %) as the dopant ions have been prepared to investigate their optical absorption and photoluminescence spectra. We have measured absorption spectra of five transition metal (Cu2 +, Mn2 +, Co2 +, Mn2 + and Cr3 +) ions doped glasses and while measuring the emission spectra, only for Co2 +, Mn2 + and Cr3 + ions doped glasses have been obtained and therefore these spectral features are reported here with appropriate electronic transition assignments.
