Clinical supervision: Global developments of a professional specialty

This issue includes the launch of a new, ongoing series of articles to appear in The Clinical Supervisor: Global Developments in Clinical Supervision. This series was created in light of the explosion of attention to clinical supervision around the world in a number of professions, with the goal of offering supervision scholars and advocates a place to document their efforts, achievements, and goals. Authors of the four inaugural articles, all of whom have been instrumental in professionalizing clinical supervision in their respective disciplines and countries, were invited to illustrate the range of professions and countries that deserve notice in this series. Liz Beddoe describes the lively activity around clinical supervision of social workers in Aotearoa New Zealand. She aptly reports the political and sociocultural influences on this work, rooted in the country's unique history. In contrast, Mine Aladağ and Gül¸ah Kemer document less established but energetic, ongoing efforts to establish supervision standards in the counseling field in Turkey, despite political challenges. Mary Creaner and Ladislav Timulak, professors in the only counseling psychology doctoral program in the Republic of Ireland, report the emergence of clinical supervision as a distinct professional activity within the complex political and social context there. Finally, Nancy Callanan, Patricia McCarthy Veach, and Bonnie S. LeRoy describe the professionalization of genetic counseling and genetic counselor supervision in the United States, including emerging research around the unique dynamics of the prevailing live supervision model in this discipline. I want to express my deep appreciation to these supervision leaders for agreeing to write for the launch of this series, as well as the strong models their reports provide for future authors.

A special thanks to Ed Watkins, Editorial Board member, for his timely and insightful help with getting these first four articles ready for publication.

The official call for Global Developments in Clinical Supervision, with guidelines for submitting a proposal for this series, is provided at the end of this issue. I look forward to receiving your proposal!
