Abstract

This commentary conceptualizes recovery mutual aid organizations and other grassroots, nonprofessional recovery support institutions as indigenous cultures; identifies ethical issues that can arise in professional and scientific collaboration with such cultures; and provides a checklist that can guide professional and scientific collaborations with grassroots recovery support organizations.
