ABSTRACT
The historian Ernest Kurtz made significant contributions to the addictions field through his explorations of the history of Alcoholics Anonymous, spirituality, shame, and the growing varieties of addiction recovery experience. To mark the anniversary of his passing on January 19, 2015, this brief article offers reflections on his life and work by a long-time protégé and collaborator.
