1By focusing in such a detailed and comprehensive way on the vicissitudes of Sonia's masturbation fantasies as they emerged in her analysis—“Monet's contributions to the development of Impressionism”—Dr. Sherkow does not elaborate on some of the other metapsychological points of view that, in all likelihood, she and Sonia also analyzed. My discussion here of some of the early origins of her troubles, the genetic point of view, could be Manet's contributions, to follow the metaphor.
