Abstract
This case study highlights the collaborative efforts of three institutions in a community to implement one component of a state law requiring school districts to observe specific guidelines for management of students with diabetes. Individuals in the school system, the local university, and the regional medical center pooled resources to meet the specific requirements. Collaboration is a reasonable and cost-effective strategy for other systems that may be seeking ways to implement similar statutes. This case study provides a model for collaborative practice that highlights the potential for community partnerships, while acknowledging the challenges involved with implementing the statute.
