Numerical Analysis of Sensitivity of Eulerian Multiphase Model for a Spouted-Bed Grain Dryer

Pages 1438-1456 | Published online: 16 Jun 2010

Abstract

The article presents a computer model of an actual spouted-bed grain dryer, which was experimentally verified as far as the bed dynamics are concerned at both qualitative and quantitative levels. Following verification, a study concerning the response of the simulation model to changes in values of its parameters was carried out. As a consequence, the article presents a set of computer simulations made for various configurations of physical and numerical parameters. This study is aimed at determining the sensitivity of the Eulerian multiphase model (EMM) used in the simulations to the individual variables. The fountain height was assumed to be the basic value characterizing the bed during operation. The results obtained allowed in-depth understanding of the EMM function and contributed significantly to increasing the efficiency of modeling for devices such as spouted-bed grain dryers.

Notes

∗Explicit determination of the fountain height was not possible.
