Complexity Leadership Theory May Help Statewide PLA Coordination

Pages 180-185 | Published online: 06 Nov 2014

Notes

Statewide PLA initiatives: A growing number of states and state higher education systems have started to work on policies to support and encourage PLA. In addition to Ohio, other states such as Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Oregon, Montana, Minnesota, and Idaho are working on statewide initiatives to promote greater availability and use of PLA. Colorado, Washington, Texas, and Florida have taken steps to acknowledge and support the role of PLA. Other states are also paying attention to PLA. Some of this state and system work involves strategies like publicizing PLA -opportunities, helping students maintain PLA credits if they transfer to another institution. These states are also making strides in PLA coordination through the passage of legislation and system-wide agreements on the general principles of PLA and adoption of good practices, such as those outlined in the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning's (CAEL's) Ten Standards for Assessing Adult Learning.
