ASYMMETRIC PATROLLING REPAIRMAN SYSTEMS WITH GENERAL REPAIR TIME AND WALK TIME DISTRIBUTIONS: COST ANALYSIS OF SERVICE SCHEDULE

Abstract

Patrolling repairman systems (PRS) consist of multiple machines serviced by a single repairman. We offer here an approach for modeling asymmetric PRS with general repair time and walk time distributions, and develop a cost measure suitable for comparing the costs of various service schedules (patrolling disciplines) in a PRS. The probabilistic behavior of a broad class of PRS is characterized via certain semi-regenerative and Markov renewal processes. The properties of these processes are employed in obtaining a cost measure. The computational details involved in the application of this modeling approach are shown for a simple example.
