About the Cover

The cover image is taken from Milton F. Maritz and Marét Cloete’s article, “Analysis and Visualization of Fractional Reflections.” The image illustrates the m-th reflection b_m of a vector b through a line V, spanned by a vector a, where m = 1.225. The vector b_m can be decomposed into components b_∥, parallel to a, and b_⊥, orthogonal to a. When m is not an integer, ${\mathbf{\text{b}}}_{\perp }={\mathbf{\text{b}}}_{\perp }^{\text{Re}}+{i\mathbf{\text{b}}}_{\perp }^{\text{Im}}$ is complex. The intermediate reflections of b through V are shown as shadow lines, as m increases from 0 to 1.225, sweeping out a cone around b_∥.
