Factor Analysis and Construction of the Acceptance of Couple Violence Scale

ABSTRACT

We examined the construction for a modified Acceptance of Couple Violence (ACV) scale administered to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer college students (N = 266) measuring intimate partner violence. We ran an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis; results identified 1 factor for the instrument explaining 76% of the variance in scores for all items.

Jennifer E. Gonzalez is an academic advisor at Full Sail University. She earned her MA in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling from the University of Central Florida. Her research interests include child and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse and family adjustment.

Vanessa Dominguez

Vanessa Dominguez is a doctoral student in the Department of Counseling and Human Services, Old Dominion University. She received her Master's from the University of Central Florida. Her research interests include relationship and family adjustment, particularly in parents of children diagnosed with special needs, intimate partner violence, in particular bystander intervention, Women's mental health, in particular maternity issues and women in the workplace.

Andrew Patrick Daire

Andrew Patrick Daire is Dean for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education and Professor in the Counselor Education program. Daire received his PhD from the Florida State University in Counseling Psychology & School Psychology. He researches couple and family interventions to reduce stress and improve family and economic stability in low-income ethnic minority and underserved populations.

Xun Liu

Xun Liu is a postdoc fellow in the Department of Foundations at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her PhD in Educational Psychology at Texas Tech University in 2015. Her research focuses on quantitative research methodology, family studies, educational motivation, and scale development and measurement.
