Within the past few years drug companies and treatment centers have started to include messages that portray some of the truths about treatment, but the women featured, including women of color, are still model survivors.

The Pink and The Black Project focus groups referenced in this article were composed as follows: Group 1 = twelve Black female breast cancer survivors, aged 30 to 67; Group 2 = three Black males aged 18 to 45 and six Black females aged 18 to 45, all of whom had someone in their family diagnosed with breast cancer (e.g., mother, sister, aunt).
