CONVERSATION AND COMMENTARY: VOTING FROM THE MARGINS 2016

Marginalizing the Queer Vote Post-Marriage: The Challenges of Visibility

Pages 361-365 | Published online: 21 Oct 2016

Notes

A brief note about terminology: I use queer throughout to mark nonnormativity along registers of both gender and sexuality. In some places, I reference specific groups that were the focus of legislative or voter engagement efforts.

The recent opening of barriers to transgender recruits marked a huge win for advocates of open LGBTQ military service (U.S. Department of Defense Press Operations).

Notably, this form of inclusion is not necessarily a statement of antimarginalization.
