Pre‐basaltic topography of the Northern Monaro and its implications

Detailed mapping of Eocene to early Oligocene basalts on the Monaro has enabled the production of topographic maps of the pre‐basaltic topography in the region. Comparison of the sub‐basaltic and present topography shows there has only been minimal change in topography and drainage patterns during the Cainozoic. This indicates that in the Monaro, either no significant uplift has occurred during the majority of the Cainozoic, or that the streams do not respond rapidly to external changes of base level.
