The lateral intrusion of silicic magmas into unconsolidated sediments: The Tennant Creek porphyry revisited

&
Pages 223-224 | Received 25 Oct 1994, Published online: 09 May 2007

The physics that controls magmatic ascent and near‐surface lateral intrusion is briefly discussed. It is argued that silicic magmas can intrude subhorizontal horizons within unconsolidated sediments to form sills that are tens of kilometres in length but only tens of metres in thickness.
