Michael Ewans
Michael Ewans is the Conjoint Professor of Drama in the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Science at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2005. His eleven books include four on opera: Janáček’s Tragic Operas; Wagner and Aeschylus: The ‘Ring’ and the ‘Oresteia’; Opera from the Greek: Studies in the Poetics of Appropriation; and Performing Opera: A Practical Guide for Singers and Directors. He has written articles on operas by Adès, Bartók, Berg, Braunfels, Britten, Debussy, Gluck, Janáček, Szymanowski, and Wagner.
