As we announced in our January–March 2013 issue, the publisher and editor of the Journal of Teaching in Social Work inaugurated an annual Florence W. Vigilante Award in honor of its founding editor. As a lasting tribute to Dr. Vigilante, this award will recognize the best article published in the preceding year.
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Sixth Annual Florence W. Vigilante Award is the author of the article titled “A Call for Self-Compassion in Social Work Education,” which was published in Volume 37, Issue 5 (2017). The article discusses the need for students to learn self-care approaches and to avoid burnout by adopting the attitude and practice of self-compassion.
We congratulate author Giovanni (Gio) Iacono, Ph.D. Candidate at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work of the University of Toronto in Canada. In recognition of the importance of his contribution, we have posted the entire article online at www.tandfonline.com/WTSW and made it available as a free download in PDF format for printing.
We are very proud of Mr. Iacono, and of his seminal contribution to the scholarship of our profession. He is a worthy recipient of the Sixth Annual Florence W. Vigilante Award.
