Jonathan I. Katz

Dr. Jonathan I. Katz is Professor of Physics at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, having joined the faculty there in 1981. Holding a Ph.D. in Astronomy and Space Sciences from Cornell University, he was previously a physicist at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and taught at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has been a consultant to the Stanford Research Institute and MITRE as part of the JASON group of scientists, and earlier served on the Advisory Council of the National Aeronautics and space Administration (NASA). The author of more than one hundred articles and technical papers, his work has appeared in such publications as the Astrophysical Journal and Strategic Review. Dr. Katz is the author of High Energy Astrophysics (Reading, MA: Addison-Wesley, 1987) and The Biggest Bangs: The Mystery of Gamma-Ray Burst, the Most Violent Explosions in the Universe (New York: Oxford University Press, 2002).
