Timothy C. Brown

Dr. Timothy C. Brown has had three careers spanning more than five decades: a U.S. Marine, career diplomat, and now professor, author, and lecturer. His diplomatic career began in 1965 as a U.S. State Department Foreign Service officer, serving in fourteen countries. From 1987 to 1990, he was Director of the State Department's Special Liaison Office to the Nicaraguan Contras, responsible for oversight of the Central Intelligence Agency's aid to the Contras in the wake of the Iran-Contra scandal. He later taught at several universities. Currently Director for the Americas of the Centre International du Reserches et d'Études sur le Terrorisme et l'Aide aux Victimes du Terrorisme, Dr. Brown is author of The Real Contra War: Highlander Peasant Resistance in Nicaragua (Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, 2001) When the AK47s Fall Silent: Revolutionaries, Guerrillas, and the Dangers of Peace (Stanford, CA: Hoover Institution Press, 2000) and Causes of Continuing Conflict in Nicaragua—A View from the Radical Middle (Stanford, CA: Hoover Institution Press, 1995).
