Effects of Instruction on the Misconceptions About Programming in BASIC

Abstract

Recent studies of beginning programmers have indicated that there are categories of misconceptions which students commonly have regarding the syntax and semantics of BASIC programming. The major purpose of this study was to determine if the common misconceptions which high school students have about syntax and semantics in the BASIC programming language can be decreased by specific instruction in the problem areas.
