Guillermo Sucre
Guillermo Sucre (Tumeremo, Venezuela, 1933), poet and critic, was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh at the time this essay appeared. Returning to Venezuela, he published his major study of Latin American poetry, La máscara, la transparencia (1975; The Mask, The Transparency), taught at the Universidad Simón Bolívar, and became director of the publishing house Monte Ávila.
