Victoria Ocampo
Victoria Ocampo (1890-1979), the eldest of six sisters in a prominent Argentine family, founded the important literary journal Sur in 1931 as well as the subsequent publishing house by that name. She was a tireless promoter of Argentine and Latin American writers alongside their counterparts in Europe, North America, and beyond. She wrote books on Dante, Virginia Woolf, and T. E. Lawrence, as well as her ten-volume collection of essays Testimonios.
