Luís ‘Aseokaỳnha'

Born in the state of Minas Gerais, Luís Carlos Oliveira ‘Aseokaỳnha' has resided in Salvador, Bahia since 1984. ‘Aseokaỳnha,' whose adopted last name in Tupi means “the mouth’s sky” (“o céu da boca”), has published poetry in various editions of Cadernos negros. Though his poetry broaches multiple topics, his work centralizes the written word's expressive and political power. For him writing means to “transform a shout into a refrain.”
