ABSTRACT

Five new genera and species of Neuroptera are described from the Late Triassic Momonoki Formation (Japan): Nipponopsychops fusilis gen. et sp. nov. (Osmylopsychopidae), Triassoberotha japonica gen. et sp. nov. (Berothidae), Yamaguchius splendidus gen. et sp. nov. (Ithonoidea, Fam. indet.), Ominopsis enigmaticus gen. et sp. nov. (Ithonoidea, Fam. indet.) and Momonokus obscurus gen. et sp. nov. (Osmyloidea, Fam. indet.). These findings constitute one of the richest faunas of Triassic Neuroptera, rivalling that from Queensland (Australia). Yamaguchius splendidus gen. et sp. nov., the earliest known ithonid-like lacewing, demonstrates the presence of oblique radial branches, a condition rarely found in Neuroptera. Nipponopsychops fusilis gen. et sp. nov. and Triassoberotha japonica gen. et sp. nov. are among the earliest records of Osmylopsychopidae and Berothidae.
