ABSTRACT

This study developed a combustor with silicon carbide (SiC) microchannels cooling (SiC MC) at the walls by the motivation of the excellent physical properties of SiC and its promising application in aerospace areas. Its thermal and combustion performance was experimentally explored by the comparison of a combustor with stainless steel microchannel cooling (STS MC). Results showed that the combustor with SiC MC induced much more complete combustion, an 18–20% increase in combustion efficiency, and a 5.3–5.6% decrease in CO emissions than the STS MC counterpart. Besides, the effects of coolants on the performance of combustor with SiC MC were also evaluated.
