Changing Spaces: A Theatrical Intervention in Nursery Schools

Abstract

Two actors visited a nursery school and invited a group of children and their teachers to join a theatrical journey through their institution. The performance, Wenn Räume Träumen, focused on the question of how a theatrical intervention could enter a nursery school and invite children and teachers to experience their everyday environment through new glasses. The artistic process necessarily started with asking: What kind of environment, what kind of space is a nursery school? Which arrangements, behaviors, and rules characterize nursery schools? This article describes the research that accompanied the rehearsing process and focuses on the artistic methods used to get participants into play with aspects of the encountered space.

Dos actores visitan una guardería, e invitan a un grupo de niños y a sus maestros a realizar un viaje teatral a través de su institución. La escenificación “Wenn Räume träumen” aborda la cuestión de cómo una intervención teatral podría llevarse a cabo dentro de una guardería, e invitar a niños y maestros a experimentar su entorno cotidiano, visto a través de una nueva lente. El proceso artístico necesariamente se inició con las preguntas: ¿Qué tipo de ambiente, qué tipo de espacio, es una guardería? ¿Qué ordenamientos, comportamientos y normas caracterizan a las guarderías? Este artículo describe la investigación que acompañó al proceso de ensayo, y se centra en los métodos artísticos para llegar a jugar teatralmente con los aspectos del espacio encontrado.
