Abstract
The paper describes and compares the research that has utilized and has specifically tested the measurement instrument known as the MECA (Measurement of Elementary Communication Apprehension). Based upon the conclusions from three studies that employed factor analytic research, cautions are offered, problems are developed, and recommendations for future research are provided.
