Notes

1The productions took place at the Abbey Theatre in 2001 and 2004. Druid Theatre produced it in 2009.

2The story of the Hellfire Club dates to the eighteenth century and concerns the arrival of a stranger to an isolated house in the Dublin Mountains. He joined in a game of cards already underway but, when one of the players dropped something on the ground and bent down to retrieve it, he discovered that the stranger did not have feet but cloven hooves—that he was the devil. The ruins of the house still stand, and various superstitions continue to be associated with the location.
