Abstract
We report the first laser heating experiments on Li in hydrogen at high pressures. X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements suggest the possible formation of polyhydride (temporary named LiH-II) that is considered to contain H
molecules in its crystal lattice. LiH
-II was found to be a transparent insulator at pressures below 62 GPa.
