Abstract

The purpose of this article is to develop a mathematical optimization model for the optimal design of a cause selecting chart (CSC) for a real manufacturing case. The X¯ and CSC charts are designed and used for monitoring two dependent finishing processes for manufacturing fire extinguishers; an important equipment for safety. An algorithm is developed to obtain the design parameters for both processes and sensitivity analysis indicated that the obtained design parameters are practical. The applicability of the model has been demonstrated on other cases from the literature.
