Helmut Schneider

About the Authors: Helmut Schneider earned his Ph.D. in statistics and operations research from the University of Berlin (West Germany). He holds the rank of professor and is chairman of the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences at Louisiana State University. Dr. Schneider is a member of the American Society for Quality Control, the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Management Sciences, the Decision Sciences Institute, and the Operations Research Society of America. His research areas include process control, quality control, life tests, and inventory control. He has published over 50 articles in professional journals. He is the co–author of the Instrument Society of America (ISA) text entitled The Essentials of SPC in the Process Industries. He consults regularly in matters related to quality control in the chemical industry.

James Pruett

James M. Pruett, before he joined International Paper, earned his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas. He held the rank of professor in the Department of Quantitative Business Analysis at Louisiana State University. Dr. Pruett is a member of the American Society for Quality Control, The Institute of Management Science, the Decision Sciences Institute, and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. His research areas include quality control, information systems in manufacturing, and simulation. He is the author of the ISA text Fundamentals of Programming with FORTRAN 77 and co–author with Dr. Helmut Schneider of the Essentials of Statistical Process Control in the Process Industries.

Cliff Lagrange

Cliff LeGrange is a Senior Quality Analyst for The Dow Chemical Company. He joined Dow's Louisiana Division in 1974 as a Mechanical Designer in Plant Engineering. From 1988 to 1992 he worked in the Dow Supplier Partnership Process as the Quality Performance Facilitator. In 1992, he became the Project Facilitator for the Dow North American Supplier Partnership Process. He has completed the Louisiana State University Quality Management Program and is a member of the American Society for Quality Control. He has three certifications: CQE, CQA, and CRE.
