Preface

Pages 1-2 | Published online: 24 May 2012

This special issue of Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica, section B Soil and Plant Science, was published on the occasion of the 3rd European Turfgrass Society (ETS) Conference, in Kristiansand, Norway, from 24 to 26 June, 2012. The theme of the conference was ‘Quality turf and efficient utilization of resources’.

At previous ETS conferences, all contributions were presented as two-page extended abstracts in a conference book of proceedings. Although the abstracts were subjected to review, many authors asked for the opportunity to publish a full scientific paper in a peer-reviewed journal as part of the conference.

The special issue of Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica is a fulfillment of this request. It contains papers that were subjected to a two-step review process, the first based on short abstracts submitted by 1 October 2011, and the second based on the full papers submitted by 1 January 2012. Of a total of forty-five abstracts received by 1 October, nineteen made it through the whole review process and were finally accepted for publication in this issue.

I would like to thank STERF, the Scandinavian Turfgrass and Environment Research Foundation, for sponsoring the 3rd ETS conference by covering the costs related to the printing and distribution of this volume. The time and efforts of my fellow editors Alessandra Zuin and Anna Mårtensson, and of the 35 reviewers, listed on the following page, is also greatly acknowledged. Finally, I would like to thank Amy Cox, Anna Walton and Edward Foster of the publishing company Taylor & Francis, for their support and excellent cooperation during the production process.
