Abstract

This paper is aimed at proposing some single layer, single feed, multifrequency slotted microstrip patch antennas for wireless communication applications. Four different slotted patch antennas fabricated with FR-4 () substrate are proposed and experimentally studied. Unequal narrow rectangular slots are introduced on the respective patches to reduce the size of the antennas. Multiple resonant frequencies are also obtained by cutting unequal slots. The measured result shows that the size of the proposed antennas have been reduced by 89, 90, 92, and 67%, respectively, when compared with their respective conventional rectangular microstrip antennas with same patch areas. The proposed antenna structures also provides increased frequency ratio (the ratio of second or higher resonant frequency to the first resonant frequency). All the antenna structures are simulated using method of moment based IE3D™ software. Good agreement is achieved between simulated and measured (by vector network analyzer) results.
