Abstract

In this paper, a tunable dual-band antenna with an asymmetric Y-shaped microstrip line is proposed. The proposed antenna comprises an asymmetric Y-shaped microstrip line and an isosceles triangle-wide slot carved on the ground plane. By adjusting the angle of the Y-shaped microstrip line, desired center frequency of single-band can be obtained. With loading varactors, single-band and dual-band are achieved, which can be conveniently controlled. Simultaneously, the switchable behavior between the tunable single-band and the tunable dual-band is presented. The prototype is designed on F4B-2 substrate with a dielectric constant of 2.65, which occupied an overall size of 30 × 25 × 0.5 mm3. Simulated and measured results show that low- and high-frequency bands can be controlled through two varactors. The low-frequency channel ranging from 2.6 to 3.35 GHz can be realized, while the tunable high-frequency band ranges from 4.6 to 5.12 GHz. The low-frequency band can be adjusted while keeping the high-frequency band unchanged. Further, the proposed antenna has relatively stable radiation patterns during frequency tuning.
