Light-weight low-profile monopole array antenna with wideband circular polarization on flexible substrate

ABSTRACT

A novel 2×2 broadband circularly polarized low-profile monopole array antenna adopting the sequential rotation technique is presented and experimentally studied in this article. The array is very lightweight and is printed on the 0.2 mm flexible substrate. The basal antenna element of the 2×2 arrays is a printed curve-shaped monopole with good bandwidth and circular polarization property. The simulated and measured impedance bandwidth and axial ratio bandwidth are presented. Moreover, radiation patterns are also presented. The advantages of the proposed antenna include low-profile, light-weight, simple structure, and broad working bandwidth.

Yilin Liu

Yilin Liu was born in Lanzhou, China, in 1990. He received his B.Sc. degree in electric engineering and information from Southwest JiaoTong University, Chengdu, China, in 2012, and the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada, in 2014. He received his Ph.D. degree in communication and information system from Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, in 2018. His current research interests include the analysis and design of antennas and rectifier circuits, with emphasis on rectenna array.

Kama Huang

Kama Huang received the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees in microwave theory and technology from the University of Electronic Science and Technology, Chengdu, China, in 1988 and 1991, respectively. He has been a professor with the College of Electronics and Information Engineering of Sichuan University, Sichuan, China, since 1994. His current research interests include the interaction between electromagnetic fields and complex media in biological structure and reaction systems.

Xiaoping Feng

Xiaoping Feng was born in Nanchong, China, in 1987. He received the M.S. degree in signal and information processing from Chongqing University of Technology, Chongqing, China in 2013, and Ph.D. degree in electronics and information from Sichuan University, Chengdu, China in 2017. Since 2017, he has been an Assistant Professor in Sichuan University of Science & Engineering, Zigong, China. His current research interests include microwave heating and microwave wireless power transmission.

Nouman Rasool

Nouman Rasool was born in Punjab, Pakistan in 1987. He received B.Sc. Electronic Engineering degree from University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, Taxila, Pakistan in 2011, the M.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering from (UESTC) University of Electronics Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China in 2015. Since 2016, he has been with the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, where he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Electronics and Information systems. His current research interests covers the design, analysis and investigation of antennas and rectifier circuits, specifically circularly polarized antennas and rectenna array.
