ABSTRACT
A compact dual-band loop-type antenna is proposed in a small-sized ground plane for Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications. The antenna element is comprised of two adjacent resonance loops, excited by two feeding loops at the back side of the substrate, to achieve independent control of dual-band IoT applications at 0.92 and 2.45 GHz, respectively. To improve the radiation performance of the lower band, the metal frames are adopted as ground-mode tuning structures to generate a new ground-mode resonance, producing dual-resonance characteristics at 0.9 GHz bands and generating greatly improved bandwidth and radiation efficiency. Therefore, both lower and higher bands with high performances are achieved in simulation and verified in measurement.

M. Zeeshan Zahid
M. Zeeshan Zahid received his M.S. in Electronics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, in 2006. He joined National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) as a Lecturer. He is a recipient of the “Best Teacher of the Year” award in 2012. He did his PhD from Hanyang University, South Korea in 2017. He is currently serving at NUST as an Assistant Professor. His research interests include MIMO antennas and circularly polarized antennas for mobile devices.
Yunnan Jin
Yunnan Jin received his B.S. in Telecommunication Engineering from Yanbian University of Science and Technology in Yanji, China, in 2013. He is currently working toward a combined master’s and Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering at Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea. His research interests include various antenna designs, wireless body area networks, and wireless communication systems.
Longyue Qu
Longyue Qu received his B.Sc. degree in communication engineering from the Yanbian University, China, in 2013, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Hanyang University, Seoul, Rep. of Korea, in 2015 and 2018, respectively, in microwave engineering. He is currently a research fellow at Hanyang University. His current research interests include antenna theory and design especially for 4G/5G communications, massive MIMO, metamaterials, mmWave, and RF circuits. He serves as a reviewer for several international journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, IEEE Access.
