Editorial 2019 for Ocular Immunology and Inflammation

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the first edition of Ocular Immunology and Inflammation for 2019. As is usual for this first edition of the year, I would like to both reflect on what we have achieved over the last 12 months and point to some highlights for the coming year.

In the series of “Disease of the Year” we analysed the classic uveitis complication of “Macula Edema” in 2018. Most of the 9 planned reviews have been submitted or are currently under publication.

The Editorial Board for this consisted of Vishali Gupta (India), Sofia Androudi (Greece), Bahram Bodaghi (France), Marc de Smet (Switzerland), Moncef Khairallah (Tunesia) and Careen Lowder (USA).

For 2019 we have planned to analyse the important topic of “HIV-Infection and ocular inflammation” in detail, and we are planning a series of approximately ten topics. The Editorial Board is under the lead of Jolanda de Groot (Utrecht, The Netherland) and Derrick Smit (Cape Town, South Africa).

We plan to begin publishing our Congress Calendar for Meetings this year, which will provide information about upcoming meetings on ocular inflammation and/or infection. For inclusion, please send details of your 2019 meeting to the journal’s Managing Editor ([email protected]).

OII’s impact factor has increased nicely this year to 3.348 (2.453 in 2016) and ranks 11 out of 59 journals in the ophthalmology category of Clarivate Analytics’ Journal Citation Reports (JCR). OII is now a Quartile 1 journal, whereas with the 2016 Impact Factor of 2.435 and historically, the journal has been categorized as Quartile 2. OII’s previous rank was 18 out of 59 ophthalmology journals.

Such an increase of the Impact Factor is only possible because the journal has supportive Reviewing Editors and Reviewers: thanks to all of you. Your names are found in 2018’s Issue 8 of Volume 26. Of course I also want to thank all contributors, and I encourage you to submit your best work to OII so that we can continue to provide our readers with the highest quality articles and reviews from the field of ocular immunology and inflammation.

Thank you for your continuing support and Happy New Year!
