Approximate Formulae for the Scattering of Light by Oriented, Infinitely Long, Homogeneous, Soft Circular Cylinders

Abstract

We present approximate formulae which describe the scattering of light from an oriented, infinitely long, homogeneous circular cylinder for arbitrary ρ′ in the limit |m 2 − 1|/sin2ζ → 0, where m is the relative refractive index of the cylinder, ρ′ is the phase shift suffered by the central ray and ζ is the angle between the cylinder axis and the direction of incidence.
