Abstract
We present approximate formulae which describe the scattering of light from an oriented, infinitely long, homogeneous circular cylinder for arbitrary ρ′ in the limit |m 2 − 1|/sin2ζ → 0, where m is the relative refractive index of the cylinder, ρ′ is the phase shift suffered by the central ray and ζ is the angle between the cylinder axis and the direction of incidence.
