Abstract

Distributed feedback (DFB) resonators have many advantages compared with the equivalent Fabry-Perot resonators. Since the feedback system is integrated within the gain medium the devices are compact, rugged and inherently stable and are easy to incorporate into integrated optics systems. Also the large number of grating lines incur extremely narrow linewidths. Hence DFB resonators are widely used.
