Application of the infinitesimal deformation approach to the tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation in MgO-partially-stabilized zirconia

Pages 15-20 | Received 04 Aug 2003, Accepted 05 Aug 2003, Published online: 21 Aug 2006

Abstract

The infinitesimal deformation approach has been applied to the tetragonal → monoclinic martensitic transformation in magnesia-partially-stabilized zirconia using a lattice correspondence C for which c tc m. The crystallographic parameters such as habit-plane orientation, direction of total shape deformation, and orientation relationship between parent and product phases have been derived for the (110)t and (011)t slip systems as the lattice-invariant shear deformation. The derived results are in good accordance with those calculated from phenomenological crystallographic theory and experimental observations.
