Abstract

A method for calculating the activation energy spectrum from isothermal data using Fourier techniques is used for studying the deformation processes in amorphous metals. The influence of experimental error on the calculated spectrum is discussed. The activation energy spectrum derived from the anelastic deformation of Fe40Ni40B20 amorphous metallic ribbon is presented. The spectrum obtained involves three well-separated peaks, each of which represents a different material transport mechanism.
