FCAW welding of duplex steel in construction of chemical cargo carriers

Abstract

The paper contemplates problems related to duplex steel welding in terms of materials and technologies. It presents the area of application of FCAW welding of UNS S31803 type of duplex steel in the production process of chemical cargo carriers on the basis of an example of B588-III series vessels that are manufactured by Stocznia Szczecińska Nowa Sp. z o.o. [Szczecin Shipyard]. The article contains an analysis of the impact of selected aspects of the welding technology, including linear energy and inter-welding sequence temperature, as well as of additional materials, on the properties of welded joints.
